Krebs' lawyer is absolutely correct. As Trump and his enablers continue to make baseless claims about a "rigged" election, they're fanning embers of distrust that are all too likely to erupt into flames of violence. https://twitter.com/dnvolz/status/1336867523594219527
These challenges to the election results are long past being "just politics" or "pursuing all legal avenues." They're a multifaceted active measures disinformation campaign that aims to overturn the results of a lawfully conducted election.
Research shows that the more often false claims are repeated, the more prone people are to believe them. This multifaceted nature of this disinfo campaign - media hits, baseless lawsuits, trying to sway elected officials with carrots and sticks - equates to lots of repetition.
To be clear: this is a more complex and insidious disinformation campaign than anything we saw from Russia in 2016. By its very nature, the ability to use US courts and mechanisms of government to lend a veneer of respectability makes these false claims more pernicious.
This extended disinfo campaign has already done incalculable long-term damage to confidence in our democratic processes. It needs to stop, before its targets - Trump supporters - get duped into committing violence that will shatter lives in red and blue states alike.
