This thread explains how Trump scored higher in votes and in vote share in San Fran and Santa Clara than in 2016 AND how Biden still ended up with larger vote margins in each. But before we can being, I have to fix Cortes' numbers because they're WRONG. No, I'm not kidding. 1/10 https://twitter.com/CortesSteve/status/1335948385002663936
Trump did NOT gain 21K votes in SF; he gained <19K. His gain "on the margin" wasn't 4%, it was <3%. The Santa Clara figures were even further off. Trump didn't gain 137K votes there, he only gained 70K (though the 4% margin gain was correct - in fact it was closer to 5%). 2/10
But here's what Cortes left out: Biden ALSO gained votes in both counties (SF city and county are the same area) - so much so that in both SF and SC, Biden's margin was LARGER than Clinton's. (Source: @uselectionatlas) 3/10
Of course, even without Cortes' errors and omissions on SF and SC, his larger point about the "four cities" also fails - and fails badly. Why? Because Biden's edges in Philly and in Detroit were SMALLER than Clinton's. 4/10
Trump and his minions are trying some numerical chicanery by talking about other cities where Trump gained votes , mentioning Biden won by large margins in those "four cities," and skipping over the fact that Trump gained votes in those cities, too. 9/10
The hope is that their fans don't listen too closely and don't notice the gaps in their story. That's all I expected they did. I never dreamed they would also use incorrect data in the process. These fools can't even do half-truths right. 10/10
