I do so many things just cuz I saw my grandfather do it. I use blue magic and buy brut 33 because he did. At the liquor store I randomly remembered ONCE I saw him pull Wild Turkey out of his locked closet so I bought some. He wasn't a liquor guy, mostly PBR & Carlos Rossi.
I talk about Cadillacs because he was a Cadillac man. He bought a brand new cherry red I remember like it was yesterday sitting by his bed as he talked to the salesman on the phone. 96 sedan deville. Kids at school thought we was rich. But he was just responsible and stable.
We didn't had cable and he nevery got me fly but I had all the necessities. One day in the middle of a storm and flooding he took me to pick up school supplies for a project. Didn't even blink. He was a hard man though. But of course as a young'un I only saw the best side of him.
He didn't have a college degree but went from sugar cane plantations to being a bookkeeper for a bunch of local labor unions around new orleans. Had his own office. Was punching numbers in a computer at 70. In the 90s.
My uncle once told me my grandfather as a teen was working in the fields one day and saw a black man walking by in a nice suit and decided he was going to be that guy and didn't stop until he did. I'm sure it was more complicated but you know how these things go lol.
My uncle also told me during his final days that he kept calling out for me asking where I was. I lived with him till I was 12. Moved with father after elementary and not even a year later both he and my grandma passed within two months of each other.
I think about him all the time man.
He also has a safe deposit box in a bank that even my rich well connected uncle can't even get authorization to open. He told me he doesn't feel like dealing with it but gave me all the information about it. I'mma crack it one day. We got the same name so that should help.
PS He also served his country with honor in Korea as well. I couldn't leave that out lol.
