Looking to learn more about social? I just listened to a great webinar with @tobydoyhowell and @JuiceboxCA.

I shared my favorite parts of the conversation.

Thread 👇 👇 👇
Toby Joins Morning Brew

• Toby joined Morning Brew a few weeks after their head of social left
• He asked for the keys to the social account and got them
• Scaled it to 100K followers from 29,000
Morning Brew's Strategy

• A lot of the content builds upon the voice in the newsletter
• Content that works in the newsletter doesn't necessarily work in social
• Find growth opportunities (examples 👇)
Growth Opportunities

• Morning Brew's biggest growth came from two events
• A beef with Dave Portnoy
• Their 100K follower push
• Create reasons for people to follow you
Why Toby Likes Social

• Toby is transitioning from part-time to full-time social at Morning Brew
• Social is a massive sandbox while writing is more constrained
• Social is what Toby enjoys the most
Growing a Brand Social

• Start growing your brand social today
• The bar is low because most brands lack authenticity when they produce content
• Make content that resonates with core users that people will share
Morning Brew's Social Plans

• Create a strategy for all Morning Brew accounts to collab (eg. @MarketingBrew)
• Create social-first content
• Continue to grow and engage the audience before they focus on monetization of social
Company Buy-In

• Show your company how social is succeeding at other companies
• They both used @mkobach and @fast as a case study
• A social presence can benefit most companies
Personal Twitter Account

• Focusing on a niche is probably the quickest way to grow
• Jack tweets about the Clippers, but his followers probably don't care
• Quickest way to grow is social proof from others (eg. other accounts telling their followers to follow you)
Personal Twitter Account (Pt. 2)

• Follow people you admire
• Hijack large accounts to gain followers (eg. reply to Musk)
• Don't be afraid to mute or block negative accounts
Community Building

• Jack and Toby can't reply to all their DMs
• It's even harder when you are running a brand account
• Prioritize and tier engagement especially for a brand account
• Eg. people with large followings are important to reply to
