After searching “sex is binary” on Google, a list of suggested questions and answers came up arguing against sex being binary.

What followed were many pseudoscientific claims about sex and gender. Here’s 7 of them!

THREAD 🧵
Q1. What are the 72 genders?
A. There are many different gender identities, too much to list.

(In this context and taken to its logical conclusion, each person can be given a unique gender identity, as many as the number of humans on the planet. Basically personality.)
Q2. Is biological sex a spectrum?
A. Sex exists on its own spectrum.

(Secondary sex characteristics do exist on a spectrum; sex doesn’t.)
Q3. Is intersex a sex?
A. Intersex describes a person born with sexual anatomy that “doesn’t fit the boxes of male and female.”

(Intersex / VSDs / CCSDs represent variation *within* males and females, not variation outside male and female.)
Q4. Is intersex a third sex?
A. We have to admit that intersex is a third sex category.

(Those with these conditions who are fertile always produce either sperm or ova, not both, and not a third gamete. Thus, intersex is not a third sex.)
Q5. How many human sexes are there?
A. There are at least five sexes.

(Anne Fausto-Sterling’s idea that VSDs can be placed into three new sex categories, even though people with these conditions are either male or female in accordance with reproductive phenotype.)
Q6. How often is a hermaphrodite born?
A. Ambiguous genitalia occurs in 0.07% to 0.05%

(The question and answer conflate hermaphroditism with intersex / VSDs. No intersex conditions produce hermaphrodites.)
Q7. Can men get pregnant?
A. Yes...

(Conflation of sex with gender identity.)
