For months, we have awaited news that a vaccine is on its way.

That day is here.

Alberta will deliver the first COVID-19 vaccines to critical health care workers next week. As a start, 3900 doses will arrive during the week of December 14th. 1/6
Alberta is ready to begin delivering the vaccine quickly & safely.

Vaccine rollout will focus first on health care workers who are crucial to protecting Albertans. We’ll begin immunizing staff in long term care and hospitals next week. 2/6
In January, we will continue to offer vaccines to eligible groups of health care workers, including staff in continuing care.

Residents will receive the vaccine as soon as it can be transported from the depots to off-site vaccination locations. 3/6
Phase 1 of Alberta’s vaccine strategy includes health care workers, staff & residents in continuing care, seniors 75+, on-reserve First Nations & on-settlement Metis 65+, and healthcare workers who are most likely to transmit COVID-19 to those at greatest risk. 4/6
Phase 2 is expected by April 2021 & will target the next priority populations.

Phase 3 will involve rolling out vaccinations to the general Alberta population, anticipated to start later in 2021. 5/6
While today’s announcement is good news, we must remember to stay vigilant.
