I’m on a slack channel with @agoodmanbacon , @pedro, and @Andrew___Baker . My contribution is to bring the mean intelligence down on there. But I wanted to say one thing about the rabid non-economist of the bunch, @Andrew___Baker 1/n
I can’t remember when I first met @Andrew___Baker on here bc time is a flat circle and I don’t remember much before a few months ago. But I know now that @Andrew___Baker is one of my favorite new friends. 2/n
You may not know this about @Andrew___Baker , but his ignorant shit posting about economics shortcomings masks a sweet, kind man who cares about others, including his spouse and his dog, and including me. 3/n
@Andrew___Baker regularly writes me to encourage me and has worked just as hard as me to know me and let me know him. He makes me laugh basically nonstop. He and my daughter Ren have the highest good joke to total joke share of anyone I know. 4/n
The other thing about @Andrew___Baker is he is an independent person. He doesn’t seem to be a pleaser like me. Pleasers need others to fill their own hearts leaky bucket, and it’s not exactly truthful stuff bc pleasers have an agenda. @Andrew___Baker doesn’t. 5/n
@Andrew___Baker somehow manages to be kind and critical and not really terribly concerned with pissing someone off and yet still like I said really wonderful to be around. 6/n
The other about @Andrew___Baker is he is unusually talented. I think I maybe once thought he and I were on a similar plane in terms of empirical comprehension. I feel like I remember at least thinking that. I do not think now. 7/n
@Andrew___Baker knows what he’s talking about* (though as a nonstop shit poster of economics that can be debated) when he talks about applied econometrics. I think maybe he paid attention in class and on here and reads well, and just thinks well. 8/n
But whatever it is, @baker (along with several others on here) is someone I always want to hear his opinion about something, be it politics, life, or empirical work. Or frankly economics tbh. It’s always fresh, and it’s always real, and what else could I want in a friend? 9/n
I think if you’re hiring this year, you should take @Andrew___Baker ‘s apparently ridiculous LinkedIn profile, print it out, and stick on the top of your applicant pool. I think this when if you’re Harvard or Chicago. Even the Hoover Institute! 10/n
Anyway, he’s one of the bright lights, and I would like to say it todsy out loud, as I have a sneaking suspicion bc of his shit posting, he doesn’t get it as much as he needs and deserves. You’re a good egg @Andrew___Baker . Merry Christmas. 11/11
