Carla continues: we spoke to media, started a petition, parents & kids protested at the school board office, rallied at board meeting. “So many voices” that led to school board scrapping concurrent hybrid model for elem students.

Next speaker, @BBFarhadi : concurrent hybrid (HyFlex) model comes from Brian J. Beatty’s work, was intended to increase enrolment in graduate level Master’s programs. Now it’s being rolled out by #Ontario school boards for K-12 students.

. @BBFarhadi : Many costs/challenges to instructors. In theory, was supposed to centre student choice, but in practice, it’s very constraining. Concurrent hybrid is “not ideal for all classes, institutions, or contexts.” So important to make sure this model is not normalized.
