Every few months a misleading tweet like this goes viral & some folks see it & panic, thinking they’re about to lose #SSDI. In the U.S. this asset limit applies if you rely on #SSI, not #SSDI https://twitter.com/thriftythem/status/1336351264637120513
#SSDI is "Social Security Disability Insurance." As of Nov. 2020, about 9.6 million people were on SSDI. SSDI has no asset limit. None.

There's no such thing as a "countable asset" for the purposes of Social Security Disability Insurance because SSDI doesn't have an asset limit.
#SSI is "Supplemental Security Income." As of Nov. 2020, about 8 million people were on SSI (1.1 million kids under 18, the balance were adults).

SSI does have an asset limit. Although that limit isn't always $2k, if you're married the limit is $3k.
While it is entirely true that the Trump administration is trying to ram through last minute rules changes to how Social Security operates, (1) those rules haven't taken effect and (2) none of them would impose an asset limit on #SSDI.
If you've joined the ranks of people who have messaged me about this, and I've replied with this thread, now you now Man shrugging

(Finally, just because a tweet has done numbers does not mean that the tweet is substantively accurate. Please stop shouting when you msg me.)
