where the conversation is heading rn just shows how US centric the Twitter experience is. that when things happen in the US we are all expected to know everything about it but that when things happen elsewhere (mainly the global south) that expectation does no longer exist.
ive seen people frame the people who raised this issue as holding allyship hostage but you know what, it is quite devastating to not receive the same humanity as you've extended to others.
this is a discussion on privilege, US centricism, propaganda, etc that is very hard to unpack. and while it is understandable that not everyone know of all the happenings all around the world it is a fact that most of us are ignored in favour of the US experience.
all i can say is that those who were not aware of the issues brought up, biggest of all UlyssesPH/antiterrorismban, LGBT free zones and ENDSARS, is that your Twitter experience needs to be broadened because a large portion of the book community has been left out.
i understand it is frustrating that some people feel wrongfully targeted due to unawareness, but i imagine it more frustrating that such big issues were glossed over or not made aware, and then be called dramatic when your people are dying.
it's also way better to just apologise than trying to defend oneself in these situations. it is one of the situations where you just need to do better and become educated. you werent aware? cool now you are.
