i know ive made threads like this before but ive been seeing an uptick in like frog content online that gets me heated (i have 6 frogs) so heres my thread of ✨✨bad frog handling ✨✨
first off: do you want an animal you can socialize/touch all the time?? frogs are not for you. for their own benefit, they should not be handled very often/for very long
whites can handle more touching than others but even then, just dont handle them if you dont need to. ESPECIALLY dont handle them in your outside clothes, with unwashed (no soap) hands if you live in an area with amphibians
you know those cute videos of frogs having a "pool party"? tree frogs dont swim well, and dont like to do it. they get distressed easily, can actually drown or aspirate water. the only soaking they like to do is in a dish with water that they can easily escape from
those videos/pictures of frogs with tiny props, sometimes outside? frogs are hardwired to put whatever they can in their mouth and swallow it. those tiny props are a huge choking hazard for any frog with a high enough prey drive in that moment
also dont take your fucking frogs outside, where there is an uncontrollable spread of chytrid and other infections they can catch. mostly chytrid. they will get potentially get sick and die a horrible, preventable, death because this literally. doesnt have a cure.
"they like looking around and experiencing the sunshine :)" frogs have 1 braincell and most pet ones are nocturnal. also they are prey animals. they absolutely do not care or want any part of this
you know whats a valid observation of frogs? they can be curious and develop best friend bonds so you should have at least 2.

other than that stop anthropomorphising them!!!!!! they are delicate, easily damaged nocturnal prey animals and should be respected as such
they absolutely do NOT care about your online shenanigans. they do not feel companionship with humans, they just know who feeds them and wont hurt them.

stop treating them like fucking toys
i especially want to reiterate: if you have frogs/want frogs, read up on chytrid. do everything in your power not to spread this vicious, devastating disease to your frogs. there is literally no cure for it and nay treatment is aggressive, with no promise of working
in conclusion......support frog content online carefully and be critical of everything you see, i guess
WAIT FOLLOW UP be careful about letting frogs sit on clothing/sheets for too long? its a small thing but sometimes if your detergent is strong/harsh frogs can absorb it through the skin and get sick
