maybe i'm not done talking about spider-man. mute this space
my guess is that maguire and garfield were the first ones to sign on months ago, and that they've managed to keep it secret. you wouldn't make the villain actor announcements without having them locked up in a deal already.
there's no way of knowing how the movie will play out at this point in time, but it feels like there's a multi-verse connection. which seems odd given how the cliffhanger of FFH was peter's identity being revealed?
the mcu has been so flippant about narrative stakes for peter so far, by padding him with iron man as a mentor, not having the uncle ben storyline, not doing anything with the reveal to aunt may that he's spider-man
so now there's this new thing that we can pretty safely assume will be the case, where the actual personal drama of peter being isolated and vulnerable for the first time will be overshadowed by a string of cameos from past iterations
just... is anyone else exhausted? sometimes i feel like i'm going crazy that the mcu's branding for the past five years has simply been "CAN YOU BELIEVE ____ SHOWED UP ON SCREEN?!"
at this rate, we're close to BLACK PANTHER 2 being less about the continuation of that story and more about how Shuri opens up some kind of tech portal that brings Wesley Snipes' Blade and Halley Berry's Storm into the narrative for some reason
i've not always been right about the direction of the mcu, but to my credit, i've always been right about their spider-man outings. i, quite frankly, just don't think they understand the character. the cinematic universe does nothing but suffocate and stifle him.
