So I just rewatched Mrs. Doubtfire and realized they gave the actual address to the iconic house. I thought it was just the exterior, but the house's online listing lets me explore the whole dang thing.
Let's take a journey, shall we?

t h r e a d ->
The exterior is largely the same, aside from new roofing and stair treatment. A lot of the original architecture has been kept the same, which unfortunately I can't say for the inside.
As you come in on the left, the living room has been stripped of its Victorian columns, a motif that was actually all throughout the 1st floor.
The fireplace and surrounding shelving are all gone. As I write this, my heart slightly aches knowing there was little attempt to maintain what went into the beauty of the original when renovating.
Across from the entryway, the dining room also shares a similar fate. Almost all of the base trim is gone, vying instead for a barren sheet of white plaster.
I always found this shot weird, how Miranda is in the living room, turns toward the camera and goes agape. Lo and behold, that's exactly where the dining room would be!
[Miranda's viewpoint, in which we see both Mrs. Doubtfire and a style of 90s décor I can't say I love, but miss when looking at what's there now]
If you were upset by what happened in the previous 2 rooms, prepare for the kitchen, which has replaced all countertops, cabinets, and large appliances. The kitchen is usually the first room to become dated, so it's not surprising. At least the island is still intact!
This is the biggest mystery to me: They somehow made the kitchen /less/ spacious?? The stove doesn't seem any closer to the sink side, but there's like 3ft of countertop missing as you move to the ovens. Camera trick, or major overhaul? No clue here.
I used to think this shot was impossible since the ovens are right there, but perhaps the camera is slammed right up against them? Looks totally impossible with the modern version below.
Okay, enough with the kitchen. Let's move upstairs. First, let's shed a tear each for what they did to this banister, the railing, and the windows.
Props to the cinematographer, who constantly worked to make the stairs look like they're right at the front door. They're more so at the back of the house, with 2 entries to the living room to the right and dining room / kitchen entries on the left.
The ceiling arch treatment, trim, window sills? All gone. But hey, there's a bathroom just to the right we never saw in the movie!
This is the kids' room, but looks to be the master bedroom today. Either production crew changed things up for filming, or renovations switched things up.
Ah, the infamous jig-is-up scene. Euphegenia briskly walks from the bedroom to the bathroom, which is... non existent?? Looks like some major work happened upstairs. The space in question is now part of a massive master bathroom on the other side (again, via the kids' bedroom)
This vantage point lets us see it is in fact directly across from the stairs (the camera's pov on the bottom is against the blank wall)
Miranda's room is located in what is now a kid's room. I guess they swapped them around during renovation.
Her walk-in closet is now a jack-and-jill bathroom with the neighboring child's room across the way.
I'll leave it to the viewer to decide if the inside has changed more than the outside, but there are definitely lots of things on this street that look the same as they did 27 years ago.
Wait you thought this thread was over!? The house's listing allows us to see parts of the house *you never knew existed!* What about this staircase just past the dining room?
It leads to a downstairs nook complete with its own bathroom. What's that around the corner?
Oh, it's where the laundry is. But wait, is that another door back there!?
It leads to the basement furnace / HVAC, which for the purposes of this house listing decided to make it a depressing fitness room.
On the other side of the nook is the garage, complete with an apparatus to allow you to fit 2 cars in a single spot. How, you ask?
Oh.

Seems like a great way to destroy 2 luxury cars with a single mistake.

Anyway, that's the Hillard house from Mrs. Doubtfire. If you'd like to explore the innards on your own, help is on the way dear! https://stevegothelf.com/properties/2640-steiner-street/
