“Play the game as intended” is some auteur bullshit. Ultimately a game is a toy. The player gets to decide how it’s played & dev intentions frankly don’t matter.
There are people in World of Warcraft that level by being totally pacifist & picking flowers. That doesn’t make them lesser players for “not playing as intended,” in fact entire articles are written about them.
Speed runners are not deemed lesser gamers for “not playing a game as intended,” they’re considered to be doing a game on hard mode & entire competitions are dedicated to them.
And players have been complaining about the inability to skip cut scenes forever. How is that not violating some sacred oath of “playing a game as intended”?
Y’all aren’t mad a lady game critic “didn’t play a game as intended” you’re mad she played in a way your narrow mind decided was unacceptable, by which you mean her playing AT ALL.
It’s impossible to know how a game is intended to be made half the time & even if you do know IT DOES NOT MATTER filmmakers in 1940 didn’t intend us to watch movies on an iPhone but that’s a valid method of engagement to base a critique on, thanks!
