/ THREAD: @IrwinCotler is being very disingenuous here. Yes, we know the IHRA definition SAYS that "criticism of Israel similar to that levelled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic". https://canadianjewishrecord.ca/2020/12/07/cotler-denies-ihra-definition-will-suppress-israel-criticism/
/ But we also know that IN ITS APPLICATION, it has been used dozens of times around the world (including here in Canada) to silence Palestine advocacy. Here are all the cases that we've documented https://www.ijvcanada.org/ihra-definition-at-work/
/We challenge Cotler to commit to protecting free speech on Palestine, and to not allow the IHRA to be used to silence BDS or legitimate anti-Zionism in Canada. Because let's face it, this is exactly what pro-Israel groups like @CIJAinfo & @bnaibrithcanada want from the IHRA
/Finally, it's encouraging that Cotler admits in the above article that widespread, popular opposition to the IHRA definition is working!
/“When people better appreciate that this is basically an anti-discrimination framework, protecting Jews individually and collectively, I believe they will adopt it. But as long as there are voices misrepresenting what it is, it will take a while,” Cotler told the @JewishRecord
/ But of course, we're not misrepresenting the IHRA. We're telling much-needed truths about how it has weaponized antisemitism against the Palestine solidarity movement.
And we won't stand for it. #NoIHRA http://www.noihra.ca
