THREAD

-The International @Olympics Committee (IOC) has decided to suspend the authoritarian President of Belarus, Lukashenko, from Olympic Games. We, as members of #United4Navid fully support this decision and hope that the IOC will do the same to the Islamic Republic of Iran
-The IOC has evoked “political discrimination” in Belarus as one of the reasons for the suspension. It has to be borne in mind that Iranian athletes have been afflicted with the same fate since the revolution. In Iran, sports are politicised at every level.
-Recently, the Islamic Republic has executed a champion wrestler, #NavidAfkari, for protesting in the street. Women in Iran are still banned from stadiums. Iranian athletes are forced to lose to Israeli athletes. https://twitter.com/AlinejadMasih/status/1314577079413936130
-That’s why we at #United4Navid ask the IOC & many other sporting bodies to hearken to the voices of Iranian athletes. Close to 50 athletes & human rights activists are asking the IOC to suspend the Islamic Republic of Iran. We extend our solidarity to the athletes of Belarus
-Last year, Sahar Khodayari set herself on fire after being arrested for entering a stadium, forbidden to women. She’d been psychologically tortured. Many asked FIFA suspend Iran for gender apartheid. But FIFA didn't. Now it's time. Otherwise, more will be killed
