1/ It's been 3 months since joining the team @LererHippeau & the VC world. I didn't come from a target school or have a network, just a willingness to learn and work hard.
Here's what I've learned so far

2/ Lean into your strengths as a young investor, and find ways to leverage those for your team -- it helps you find your voice & add value from Day 1. You don't have to be an expert at everything.
Use your age & domain expertise to your advantage to find a wedge

3/ We're living in a virtual world. I haven't experienced the in-person VC scene, or even met more than half of my team!
Make Twitter your VC community. Engage with like-minded investors & founders here -- there's no geographic barrier to meet people. That benefits newbies

4/ It's important to think about building a network in VC, but it's even more important to build genuine friendships.
People want to work with people they trust & like, not the boring person who just asks about your fund, stage, and what deals you're looking at in a 30m call.

5/ Be vocal & outward with your opinions. That can come in the form of writing on Medium, Twitter threads, etc.
I had 50 followers when I started at LH 3 mo. ago & had never written or used Twitter. Content has helped me connect w/ more ppl than I ever could've imagined!

6/ Adding value on the 1st call with founders is important -- 1st impressions matter. I write down 2-3 things in advance of each call to see how I can help.
It could be thoughts on GTM partnerships, a personal experience that relates to the product, an intro, etc. Be creative

7/ Your experiences matter & can be helpful in surprising ways in evaluating co's w/ your team.
For me, this has been random things like being a competitive soccer player growing up, loving vintage clothes/thrift shopping, my experiences as a Gen Z consumer, etc.

8/ I can't stress this enough, especially to other young or aspiring VCs -- do what feels authentic to you.
For me, this has been highlighting under-appreciated perspectives (Gen Z VCs in investing, students in EdTech, etc.) to amplify the voices of my peers through my writing.

9/ The 2,600+ community of Gen Z VCs emerged from a tweet b/c I didn't know anyone & wanted to meet more young friends in VC.
Those new friends felt the same way, so I listened & I wrote & I connected the dots. And I'm still listening -- that's the secret to building anything

10/ My goal is to make VC more accessible to under-represented founders. More collaborative amongst my peers. More transparent & welcoming for the next generation of VCs.
I'm new to VC & always open to learning and growing. I'm excited to see what I'll learn in a year's time
