Envy is worse than hate.

both on the individual and at scale

can anyone tell me why?
1) Let's start with hate. What is it? Who do you usually hate? Well, hate usually arises from the notion that the person you hate is bad in general or is specifically bad to you.

It's in man's nature to hate someone who has done you wrong or is generally wicked
you can even hate non-humans. You can hate this particular dog, or an alligator or whatever. We usually don't envy an animal.

2) What attracts envy? Apparent prosperity. There is no bounds to envy. No limit.

Indeed, the person doesnt have to do anything to you or be wicked
Hatred of wickedness is something to be praised. This wicked man could hurt you, or the community. Or he already has done so.

Our hatred increases as the hated increases in vice.

envy increases as the envied increases in virtue, prosperity, success, beauty.
There's an old saying, you're not doing anything remarkable because you're not being envied.

Why do we say that?

in contrast, unredeemed villainies increase hate. Injustice increases hate.
What extinguishes envy?

What extinguishes hatred?

Why do they extinguish those emotions?

For that....
