1. A bit of context from a former school board chair here. By my math, the VPD budget increased by approx 76% between 2008 and 2018. 2. I'm basing my crude calculations on these numbers: VPD 2008 operating budget of $180 million vs 2018 of $285 million. VSB 2008/9 op budget = $488 million. 2018/19 = $488 million. Pls correct me if I have this wrong.
3. I'm somewhat neutral on the police funding debate but I'd love to see public school funding increases at least tied to police funding increases. I suspect we'd need less policing if we invested more in kids. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
Correction - VSB 2018/19 operating budget was $497 million.
