And now, a few words from @nedsegal speaking at the the @BarclaysIBGlobal Tech, Media & Telecom Conference. #BarcTech $TWTR
We're really excited about Fleets. I think when you talk about Fleets, it's good to take a step back and think about it in the context of our goals. #BarcTech $TWTR
We want to give people more control so that they have the ability to share more on Twitter for the people for whom it's most appropriate. We're pleased to have it out all around the world now. #BarcTech $TWTR
And I'd just encourage you to think about how it fits into the broader strategy of reducing friction to help people share their thoughts on Twitter. #BarcTech $TWTR
When we look at our Board, we've expanded the Board from 8 to 11 over the course of this year. They've all been really supportive. #BarcTech $TWTR
The management structure committee, which we put together back in March, reported back with recommendations to the broader Board that we had the right structure, that they had looked at the CEO succession planning. #BarcTech $TWTR
So that work is complete, and that should give you a sense for where the Board is on our structure. I have to say when I speak about it personally, I feel like our structure works really well for our team. #BarcTech $TWTR
And the focus that we've had, not just from Jack but from the entire team has allowed us to make a lot of progress over the course of this year. #BarcTech $TWTR
Looking back at mDAU, if you do the math from when we withdrew our guidance in the middle of March until the end of March, you could back into that we likely averaged in the mid-180Ms mDAU already in those few weeks towards the end of March. #BarcTech $TWTR
When you start there and then you remember that we were at 186M in Q2 and 187M in Q3, you get a sense of the magnitude of the surge that we saw in March. #BarcTech $TWTR
Now we're really pleased with how we've been able to hold on to that group of people who came to Twitter. We feel like we are earning these people's trust, and they're making Twitter part of their daily habit. #BarcTech $TWTR
As we look ahead, we feel like the work that we're doing on the product should allow us to continue to grow mDAU, as these product improvements compound over time. #BarcTech $TWTR
We're making progress on revenue durability, but we know we've got a lot more work to do, both in brand but also direct response. #BarcTech $TWTR
And then there are the non-revenue or the non-advertising-related opportunities where we think about subscriptions for businesses and consumers. #BarcTech $TWTR
We also want to continue to help smaller businesses. If we can deliver better for customers, it will likely be that revenue per mDAU is higher. #BarcTech $TWTR
I try to encourage you to think about that more as an output of our work than something that we're singularly focused on as opposed to all the inputs that can make it happen. #BarcTech $TWTR
We want to invest against Twitter’s really big market opportunity. We approached this year wanting to grow the team and our expenses around 20%. We were off to a fine start early in the year, and then hiring, procurement got really hard, travel was shut down. #BarcTech $TWTR
And so expenses grew in the single digits in the middle of the year. #BarcTech $TWTR
We're pleased that we could be back to that 20% level in Q4 because it means that we're able to hire at a faster clip to go solve the problems that can help us serve the public conversation for the rest of the world and... #BarcTech $TWTR
...help advertisers do even better on Twitter than they do today. As we look ahead, the mindset will continue to be one of investing to drive growth. We'll share more as we get to earnings and Analyst Day in Feb. #BarcTech $TWTR
The ad server rebuild helps everything that we do tied to advertising, not just our DR roadmap. It helps us improve the formats for our brand advertising. It helps us think about the auction dynamics & how to make sure those are working as efficiently as possible. #BarcTech $TWTR
It helps us think through how many ads to sift through before we choose the ad that we show you. And all of these things are really fundamental to attracting, retaining great engineers and product people. #BarcTech $TWTR
They're fundamental to all the improvements that we make across the revenue product team. #BarcTech $TWTR
On the timing of DR work, there's 3 things to think about. First, we had other work that we were prioritizing. If you go back a few years, we felt that we needed to sequence getting our brand products where they needed to be first. #BarcTech $TWTR
Second, there are signals that we've talked about where we had work to do to ask people, to show personalized ads, where we had to make sure that our TOS appropriately reflected how we'd use the information that people gave us. #BarcTech $TWTR
And third, we've tilted the product to be way more topics and interest focused. Just through how people use the service, you're able to show them much better ads. #BarcTech $TWTR
