T.B. Maston founded the discipline of Christian ethics at @SWBTS as a distinct department. This development at Southwestern Seminary was then replicated at all six SBC seminaries. Indeed, he served as a guest professor at each one. Maston taught at Southwestern from 1922 to 1963.
When we realize Maston 1) cut his teeth as an ethicist by focusing upon the proper interpretation of the biblical text and 2) called for Southern Baptist repentance before the Civil Rights movement, we see his prophetic nature. T.B. Maston is the Dean of Southern Baptist Ethics.
Correction: Maston was a guest professor at all but one of the six seminaries.
Maston was also denied the presidency of one of our oldest Southern Baptist universities due to his advanced views against racism.
