Every bloody time a famous writer says, "you can't wait to have the time to write, get up early / stay up late and just write" if you poke around, there were inlaws or a wife or SOMEBODY taking care of shit in the background.

What we need to do is hear a lot less from the 1% who made it & hear instead from all the equally talented who never get there because they've got no support at all. Think about what we all lose. Those aren't personal failures, they're solvable systemic failures.

It is unspeakably WARPED that American culture persists with this "if you want it bad enough" BS - the dumbed down version of "if you work hard enough" - that's all a boondoggle. There are 2 ways to "make it": social support, or squashing others on your way up.
