Exams that involve essay writing require so much more than memorizing facts in order to prepare. These types of exams can be tricky to study for, but here are a few tips (thread) 👇
1) First, determine the major themes of the course (looking at how your syllabus is divided up can be helpful).

Then, take all the course notes you wrote during the semester, and condense them into brief study notes, organized by course themes. Cue cards can be helpful here!
2) Next, take your study notes and look for connections. Look for any ideas or themes that come up repeatedly. These are where possible essay topics might emerge from on the exam.
3) Practice outlining your answers to potential exam essay topics. It might be helpful to work in a small study group to do this - you can help each other expand your thinking and forge new connections between material!
