Enjoyed oppty to talk on UK Christian engagement with UN Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs at Christian Rural & Environmental Studies (CRES) day 14 Nov. My slides with notes here https://uwe-repository.worktribe.com/output/6850091 @JRayI @ARochaUK 1/7
Slides 11 & 12 have links to #SDGs resources from a range of churches & organisations. Books, studies, prayers, partnership programmes including @lutheranworld, @kirken, @weasc, @Oikoumene, @EndPoverty30, @USPGglobal 2/7
Big thanks to the experts who were willing to be interviewed about their experiences of the #SDGs Jenny Foster, @allanmacleod12 , Leena Luukkonen, @dave_bookless , @Etomalin , @iansabbath , @HausteinJorg , Kjell Nordstokke 3/7
There is some academic work in this area. I recommend @ETomalin, @HausteinJorg & Kidy 2019 https://doi.org/10.1080/15570274.2019.1608664 and @montserratgas & Albareda-Tiana 2018 https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-95336-6_1 see also https://religions-and-development.leeds.ac.uk 4/7
I searched major church denomination websites for references to the #SDGs. UK references are low, but UK general awareness of SDGs is low. Churches have a long history of community care ( #diakonia) which contributes to achieving SDGs but rarely tagged with the relevant SDG. 5/7
Finding that there are fossil fuel companies which mention the #SDGs more than some church denominations was troubling. 6/7
The presentation was the main deliverable from this work. Let me know if you would be interested in a longer write up of what I found. Thanks to @MartinHodson1 for the invitation to talk on the topic of the #SDGs. CRES course details here https://www.cres.org.uk/ 7/ 7
