Initially khatris , ( Tara Singh ) , led this , but this did not get too much traction, bcos too many khatris have sikh-hindu intermarriages ; when Jat Sikhs took over - this required an edge / 2

bcos , almost all Jats in Punjab had converted to Sikhism by 1900 ; Khalistan movement was officially started by Akali Dal ex-minister, in USA , in 1971, propped up by Kissinger for revenge for defeat in bangladesh war / 3

1978, clashes between Khalsa sikhs and Nirankari Sikhs, happned during Morarji rule, not IG ; IG foolishly meddled in this situation - but was not the instigator, had been going on low-key for decades / 4

In 1982 IG openly asked, Akali Dal was part of Janata Party coalition, and they didnt raise all these Punjab demands - Again this is not an entire sikh movement ,but limited to a sub-set of elite Jat Sikhs / 5

In the Khalistan saga ,bhindranwale was NOT the only or main khalistan force ; this movement preceded Bhindranwale and had several factions, some of which opposed him / 6
