End of year reading wrap up, Middle Grade and Young Adult.

I haven't read as much as I would have liked this year, but everything I've read has been amazing! It was hard to cut down to 12, and I still have a massive TBR pile to go.

So here they are:
A Clock of Stars: The Shadow Moth by @fran_gibbons .

I love books about sisterhood, and Imogen and Marie are an excellent addition to the literary world of brilliant siblings. With lush world building, great characters and a ton of surprises--this book is a new classic!
A Secret of Birds & Bones by @Kiran_MH .

A perfect October read, we start with Sofia in a charnel house. The writing here is so incredibly physical. The sounds and tastes and smells are extremely vivid.

This is a sensory explosion of a novel.
The Castle of Tangled Magic by @sophieinspace

I was a bookseller when Chicken Legs was book of the month, and this third novel is another triumph. Excellent visuals and a dynamic protagonist, this is a great read for honestly any person of any age. Universally great.
Nevermoor by @digressica

I put of reading this for ages so that I could binge the following books. I'm so glad I did, this book is a dream and I'm jealous of people who get to read it fresh & for the first time. I never do rereads but I will make an exception for Morrigan Crow!
Oh My Gods by @alexsheppard

I inhaled this at 28. 14 year old me would have eaten it.

The Greek Gods are the original celebrities and this book really nails what is so addictive and fun about them, while still having massive heart and a journey.

Helen is going to stay with me
A Sprinkle of Sorcery by @MHarrison13

More amazing sisters. This series is one of the biggest in Middle Grade right now, and rightfully so. I love these characters so much. I love being able to actually smell ice cream while reading.

I loved pinch and am so excited for Feb!
Wranglestone by @DarrenRCharlton

I knew I'd like this when I saw the cover. I knew I'd love it when I read the blurb.

I need a film adaptation of this now. It's got a coming-of-age love story, zombies and a setting that is a whole character by itself.

May it win the costa
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson

This is the book of the summer for me. Joyful, nostalgic and yet also fresh, I lived in this book and felt deprived when it was over.

I hope this is running, not walking, towards an adaptation.
The Vanishing Trick by @JenniSpangler1

If you love the Victoria Era and characters you'll either love or love to hate, this is a treat! Visceral and witty, with incredible instructions, this was the book that saw me through the darker days of lockdown.

Excellent!
Moonchild by @aishabushby

Could not be more new to this list if it tried. Bought it this morning and only meant to read the first few chapters. Finished it in two hours. Glorious. Adventure, love, setting and heart. This is a gem and perfect for sensitive, intelligent readers.
Wonderscape by @jenrosebell

June was a hard month for me. My book came out, we were locked down and I was mentally burning out. So the fact that this book gave me so much escape and kept me hooked shows just how incredible and miraculous it is. Original & smart, I just love it.
Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B Alston.

This is one of the big contenders of 2021 and I am not the first, nor will I be the last, to say it. Gripping, fresh and full of everything I want from a children's book.

This proof is now precious cargo to me. What a heroine.
So those are my picks. There are as many honourable mentions, plus adult favourites. I've loved almost everything I've picked up this year, which is great.

Definitely hoping to get through more next year; forgive me, it was 2020.

Happy reading!

(Also, something is coming!)
