Ok, trying to come up with a ranking of Best/Worst local elected positions. Which ones are the best to hold? This is a balance between pay, power, responsibility and stress. You want to maximize the first two while minimizing last two.
county commissioner > treasurer > mayor > district judge (family/juvenile/probate) > JP > district judge (civil/criminal) > civil court at law > misdirects court > the clerks > city council > county judge > county attorney > controller > constable > sheriff > any school board
I put law enforcement near the bottom because sometimes people die in your care or your employees violate constitutional rights and nobody wants that
Also, this list is made on the presumption that you're not a crook. The Crooked List would put school boards and law enforcement closer to the top. Lots of great potential. County commissioner would still be number 1.
