In the above, the city claims their decision was based on "closer access to medical care and more space for on site social services." If they mean being closer to Project Renewal's outpatient services, the attached maps show it's a matter of a 34 min subway ride vs a 23 min one.
Moreover, as the city has been repeatedly told, Project Renewal has brought their typically off-site outpatient services on-site to The Lucerne's penthouse 6 days a week, meaning that residents do not have to get on the subway at all to receive outpatient addiction services.
The city's explanation does not hold water. Residents are also given medical services through a Medi-Van, and the streets outside the Radisson are too narrow for the van to fit. If programming space were an issue, it would have been the service provider pushing for the move.
As revealed in court proceedings, the city announced the move on Sept 9th, when the proposed site was the Harmonia family shelter, which had little to no indoor programming space. The city's reasoning was retrofitted to the Radisson once public outcry blocked the Harmonia plan.
Stop gaslighting and just say it: Some neighborhoods have enough political "pull" to say "Not in my backyard."
Or, act in the best interest of Lucerne residents and give them stability before this long cold winter.
