It takes so much courage to admit you have been problematic when you have always thought of yourself as a “good person”. I get it. But if you aren’t analyzing yourself, your words, and your actions you are most likely problematic.
You are doing things and saying that are causing trauma.
Being a good person is a starting point not an ending point. Being a good person means you critically think about your actions in relation to others.
Being a good person means you know you have work to do.
Being a good person means you have to check yourself because you have probably caused harm. Being a good person doesn’t mean you say it and that is it. Being a good person isn’t just donating money, helping someone across the street, and so on.
Being a good person is a lot of work because you consistently are working to be a better person. Being just “good” isn’t acceptable.
So when you want to say “but I am a good person” ask yourself why are you saying that and what are you trying to cover up....
