The truth about Jameis Winston's 30 INT season. 15 came in 4 VERY BAD performances (SF, CAR, NO, HOU). No excuses, he cost the Bucs these games. Of his remaining 15 INT's, 6 came on 3rd down (3-5, 3-9, 3-7, 3-11, 3-7, 3-10). This is indicative of bad situational football.
No defense is concerned about the RB getting a carry in 3rd & long. 6 came on 2nd down (2-13, 2-10, 2-9, 2-23, 2-10, 2-10). Another indication of poor situational football, the Bucs were so often behind the chains in 2019. 3 came on 1st down (1-10x3) which is inexcusable.
Jameis Winston often approached these "behind the chains" situations fearlessly and not cautiously. This paid off in some cases but cost him way too often. When people say he threw 30 INT's in one season I think it should be noted that 1/2 of these took place in 4 BAD games.
For proper perspective.
Why were the Bucs behind the chains so often in 2019? A few factors:

1. Penalties, the Bucs were the most penalized team in the NFL in 2019 going 1,000+ yards in the wrong direction.
2. Sacks, Jameis Winston was the 4th most sacked QB in the NFL last season. Some can be blamed on him but certainly not all or even most.

3. Runs for negative yardage or zero yards gained were quite regular for Ronald Jones & Peyton Barber in 2019.
