For the past week, Hong Kong has grappled with daily arrests and detention of some of its most dedicated activists. Is the only option to flee, "or stay here and wait to be arrested"? https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/hong-kong-democracy-protests-jail-arrests/2020/12/09/128f7872-3902-11eb-aad9-8959227280c4_story.html
And for those who have fled, consider the burden they continue to bear, the guilt, the pain and sometimes shame. As @nathanlawkc watched his friends and colleagues sentenced, "there’s always a question of why all these people are in jail, and not me"
And you always wonder, @nathanlawkc added, "why I am unable to bring concrete changes to Hong Kong even though you know objectively it is not a task that can be accomplished by one person.”
I spoke to @ChuHoiDick last week who said the toughest thing for HK's arrested youths to bear is this demoralized society, with emigration at the front of many minds. The diaspora and overseas activists "should be the leaders of the movement themselves" he said.
“While we are facing our terms in prison, they have their responsibilities," said @ChuHoiDick Yesterday, he was arrested again, and slapped with his fifth charge this year.
