Interesting by @Dannythefink in which, inter alia, he addresses (I think) recent pieces by myself and @jillongovt https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/c9e9e526-396f-11eb-a4fe-454ae9b80c8b 1/6
I'm not sure I agree with this. Had the PV crowd not refused to vote for any soft Brexit option, had Labour MPs who rejected a PV supported the May deal, could not the outcome have been different? This is about cause, not blame. 2/6
People whose preferences were 1. PV and 2. the softest Brexit possible failed. Surely it's worth reflecting on whether 1. got in the way of 2 during the parliamentary process? 3/6
And yes obviously without those who have pressed for the hardest possible form of Brexit, this would not have happened. That goes without saying (and we say it in the @prospect_uk piece). The point is simply there weren't enough of them in Parl to force it through alone. 4/6
While I'm at it, one more thing on the article. While it's possibly true this government won't diverge from EU standards, Brexit, as Danny says, is for life. The EU are hedging against future govs with LPF demands. 5/6
I may be away from Twitter for a bit now, so shout away..... END
