Many of you will no doubt be ploughing through the @theCCCuk report this morning. It will be well worth your time.

I just made it to the part of the report summarising recommendations, so thought I would share in case some of you want some headlines 1/n
Transport: follow through with policy to deliver ban on new petrol / diesel by 2030, charging infrastructure and policies to reduce demand 2/n
Industry: Comprehensive support package needed to help industries transition. Interesting flag for work on future carbon standards and tariffs to start now. Wonder how taxpayer funding point may inter-play with current Brexit level playing field discussions 3/n
Buildings: Seems little surprise that we need heat pumps, heat networks and hydrogen - all combined with action on energy efficiency. Final point about skills is key - we simply don't have enough people (or supply chain) today who can deliver this 4/n
Power: Ramp up required in renewable capacity is material. Point re: flexibility markets is key. Coal gone by 2024, unabated gas by 2035 5/n
Hydrogen: Special shout out to hydrogen and the role of the forthcoming Govt strategy in building demand and supply. On here debate is often pitched as binary - electrification or hydrogen. Message is that we need both 6/n
Agriculture: Much has been written about changing the way farmers are funded post-Brexit. This is an ideal opportunity to follow through on the specific CCC report back in January. Key for me here is adapting to changing climate, biodiversity and demand side measures 7/n
Aviation / Shipping: Development of sustainable fuels and demand management is key. Feels to me (at least) that this is one of the areas where we have clearer line of sight vs net zero report... 8/n
Waste / F-gases: It amazes me that more progress on these has not already been made tbh. Standards through the supply chain and funding for proper recycling of what is wasted will be key - we can do a lot of this today if we wanted 9/n
CO2 removal: Scale up by late-2020's means starting work on trials early in 2020's. The reference to a strategy therefore is urgent 10/n
There is so much in this report. Whereas the net zero report last year showed what is possible, this report looks to lay out how it might be brought about. And delivery of tangible action is what we need right now 11/11
