I’m embarrassed to say that I feel I approached this very surface level earlier today without a ton of critical thinking https://twitter.com/carolinegonzo34/status/1336379562607964160
While it is true that I feel that old football player me would be frustrated and write off a teammate that left mid season almost no matter the reason, as an adult I feel like I can empathize and recognize that there are so many more factors in play then just what’s on the field
Mental health is no joke and a lot of people rolled their eyes at homesick earlier (as I would have at a time) but what is homesick but an intense sadness, and if you can’t shake that it can tear you apart
Now as an adult I find it hard to sit in judgement of an 18 year old that may be feeling that intense sadness and when talking about this situation I have to give that person the benefit of the doubt and they have to do what they have to do in order to get better
Sure you lose an exciting football player but the team will still be there, there is still football to be enjoyed, my life will go on unimpeded so I dont know that I feel comfortable anymore offering such harsh criticism of a person making a decision to try to fix theirs
