Thread - So noticing how the media has been jumping all over @jkenney & AB lately, I thought I'd crunch some numbers, just for fun.

And because I'm a database guy

To start, lets just look at provinces from BC to QC, since they are the "hot spots" of Covid, more or less.
First lets look at these provinces, and their % of cases, that is, total cases / population.
BC0.75%
AB1.63%
SK0.90%
MB1.40%
ON0.89%
QC1.80%

Okay, AB is up there, only lower that QC.
So let us look now at percentage of total population tested:

BC24.13%
AB54.52%
SK31.37%
MB27.24%
ON45.24%
QC?%

Now, I'd bet $$ other provinces case number would be higher, had they tested at the same rate as AB has.
So lets look at mortality rates, that is, Covid deaths / total population:

BC0.011%
AB0.014%
SK0.006%
MB0.030%
ON0.026%
QC0.085%

So we have AB & BC within .003% of each other, meaning BC actual case count is likely a lot higher.
So what does this mean?

Relative to the other provinces in this comparison, AB is at the lower end in mortality rate, lower than those provinces that have had more restrictions & stricter lockdowns in place

Percentage of cases is high, but they've tested more of the population
So when you see media hacks piling on Alberta & Kenney because they're so much worse than anywhere else, it just isn't so.

I grabbed these numbers from statscan, health Canada, & CTV's numbers, only took me a few minutes.
pardon the crappy formatting in the middle posts, wasn't paying attention to the pasting values from spreadsheet I threw together
There is also the factor that Alberta has one of the youngest (mean average age) populations in the nation, which could contribute both to its high case rate as young people get out more & more likely to be working amongst the public..
And while AB has roughly 60% of the people > 70 years old that BC has, BC's mortality rate is still within .003% of AB, which could be in part due to BC's older population.
If ALL provinces tested the same % of people with EXACTLY the same test the EXACT same way these statistics would be more accurate & telling of the real picture

But they are what they are, and I'm just pointing out how media hacks cherry pick to fit their own narrative
I will also add, that I find it quite telling witnessing the media pile on on Alberta / Kenney while Trudeau gets a pass from the same media.

It's Trudeau who's responsible for letting Covid rapidly get a huge foothold in Canada with his dithering about closing the borders..
It's @JustinTrudeau who is ultimately responsible for the mess the provinces now find themselves in, yet the media, inexplicably, like on so many other things, lets him skate and when they do ask questions just accept his non-answering talking points & move on

Media is complicit
