1) In just a week’s time, 61 more outbreaks have flared up all over Montreal, as the comparison chart below shows dramatically. In this thread, I will examine this surge in #COVID19 clusters across the metropolis, yet another sign the second wave is intensifying.
2) As you can glimpse from the chart, #COVID19 outbreaks in daycares and schools have sprouted up in Saint-Léonard and Longue-Pointe (circled in red) in the east end of Montreal. Further east, in Anjou and Montreal East, there are lots of workplace outbreaks.
3) On the West Island, major #COVID19 outbreaks have erupted in health-care institutions. There have also been some big workplace clusters in Saint-Laurent's industrial park, circled in red. This graphic one-week comparison illustrates this rapid proliferation in outbreaks.
4) Drilling deeper, one observes a slew of new #COVID19 outbreaks in the city's daycares (9), followed by the health sector (5), with schools and families tied at four. See the chart below, especially the pie chart showing school outbreaks catching up with those in the workplace.
5) The highest number of workplace #COVID cases are linked to outbreaks in Montreal retail and big-box stores, as the chart below indicates. The processing and fabrication industry is second in terms of cases, underscoring the difficulty in controlling the virus in the workplace.
6) Meanwhile, Montreal posted 492 #COVID19 cases Tuesday. The city’s rolling seven-day average climbed to a disturbing 230.24 cases per million population, another record in the second wave. Please see the rising orange line in the chart below.
7) At the neighborhood level, the central health district of Côte-des-Neiges, downtown and Parc Extension again posted the most new cases. Also of interest is the Plateau Mont-Royal reporting low numbers of #COVID19 cases for a few days in a row. Is this a short-term anomaly?
8) What’s also noteworthy is that #COVID19 cases are skyrocketing in the province’s schools. The Quebec Education Ministry added 251 active cases to schools Tuesday. Another 113 classes have been shuttered and two more schools have closed. See the chart below.
9) All these new cases and outbreaks will likely lead to more #COVID19 hospitalizations in about two weeks' time. On Tuesday, the province reported 835 hospitalizations (up by 17). Nine more patients were treated in intensive care for a total of 114.
10) The province added 36 more deaths to date Tuesday to a #COVID19 mortality toll of 7,313. The #pandemic claimed four more lives in Montreal. Please view the second wave of such deaths in the city in the chart below.
11) As Quebec proceeds with a second ramp down in surgeries to absorb more #COVID19 hospitalizations, Premier François Legault said he won't rule out a “circuit-breaker” lockdown. But he’d prefer to wait and see how things evolve. Unfortunately, time is not on our side. The End.
