Day 8 #AccessibleAdvent - I'd like stark recognition that white collar dress clothes are ableist, sexist, classist, etc etc. They are so limiting and stigmatizing. I always feel compelled to dress professionally to make up for the fact that I'm close in age to students. 1/3
But dressing in business or business casual means buttons with arthritic hands. It means tight waistbands that don't accommodate gastroparesis bloat. It means uncomfortable necklines that make my MCAS flare. And it means always wearing a sweater or jacket bc I'm freezing. 2/3
It's uncomfortable. I want recognition that I am just as competent and capable in soft clothes. I want us to break down the notion that clothes determine how focused, how competent, how deserving we are of respect. 3/3 #DisabilityTwitter #AcademicChatter
