In the face of an escalating housing crisis and a need to undo centuries of harm caused by America's racist housing policies @JoeBiden nominates @RepMarciaFudge to serve as the next @HUDgov Secretary. There is a lot to unpack with this choice. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/12/08/biden-to-tap-marcia-fudge-to-lead-housing-agency-443767
1) @RepMarciaFudge is an highly qualified Black woman and progressive voice who is a great choice to serve in a Biden cabinet. Particularly, because of her experience serving on the Agricultural Committee (more on that in a sec).
2) She has also supported progressive priorities such as the #GreenNewDeal and #Medicare4all. Hopefully this opens the door for her to support the #HomesGuarantee. https://homesguarantee.com/
3) She will have a steep learning curve on housing issues, as this has not been her policy area of focus in Congress. Hopefully she will lean on experts like those in the #HomesGuarantee campaign to get up to speed. https://homesguarantee.com/
4) As for Biden, this is disappointing. It was widely reported that she was being considered as USDA Secretary, which she is obviously the best candidate. But, clearly Big Agriculture got to Biden and convinced him to go with their choice of Former Sec. Vilsak.
5) The CBC clearly satisfied by the tired old "well we got something" mentality called off the fight for USDA. The question I have is, why wouldn't they fight to get strong Black leadership at both USDA and HUD? Biden's got our backs right!?!?
6) @RepMarciaFudge will be greeted on day one with a housing crisis, a decimated and demoralized agency (thanks to Ben Carson), and a movement poised to fight to undo centuries of racist housing policy. I hope she is ready to hit the ground running.
So, @RepMarciaFudge we are ready to discuss a #HomesGuarantee with you on day one. @mo87mo87 @taraghuveer @LiberationIn @ACREcampaigns @PplsAction https://homesguarantee.com/
