Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️

I cannot stress enough the best thing to do is allow yourself the time to heal. Sleep in, rest, and *go to therapy*

But acknowledging that taking a 6 month break and affording therapy while unemployed require a lot of privilege, here are some tips I’ve learned (1/8) https://twitter.com/emmayourfriend/status/1336351494564679680
1. Determine how long you can afford to chill and commit to it. Even if it’s only for a week or two out of necessity, that still helps!

Everything I’m about to share from this point forward can be done in tandem with a job if you have to go to back to work
2. In the beginning of your healing process, mindless distractions are a must. Reality TV, video games, etc.

3. Actively give yourself permission to do mindless tasks and reframe rest as “productive” with daily affirmations (ex: I challenged myself to get through my Netflix que!
4. Eventually, getting up will be a little easier. Once this starts happening up your distractions. Call a friend, watch a show with a plot, read a NOVEL (not something educational!).*
*Don’t hold yourself accountable to finishing any of these.
5. Once the stress feels less consuming, reflect. Reflect on your positive impact, reflect on your unintentional negative impact, remember the fun times, remember the hard times. Process this. This can be through meditation, therapy, journaling, art.
6. Hold yourself accountable to finishing something started in step 4. Start setting little, attainable, goals for yourself

7. Start the self care that made you happy when you weren’t burnt out, but take it slow. If you enjoyed going to an hour long yoga class, do a 20 min class
Also, a word of advice to campaign people who start working before they’re ready: it’s okay to not give all of yourself to a job.

In fact, you shouldn’t give all of yourself to a job. While you’re great at what you do, your mental health and happiness is the most important thing
Self care is active and admirable. Be kind to yourself and set boundaries with friends and family who don’t understand.

It took me 6 months to make my burnout manageable, and I’m still healing.
