In the last two weeks, three people I respect a ton asked me “How did you get @JamesClear on your podcast?”
Feels threadish.

Feels threadish.

Nobody gets James on their podcast. He selects those he goes on. I don’t know why he selected mine. My hypothesis aka hypothetical thesis
is that it was a combo of:
•Timing
•Having him find a good podcast when he listens
•Luck
•Writing a good email

He appeared on Episode 62 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-one-percent-better-podcast/id1254121785?i=1000421809883
October 2018. 101 episodes ago.
#AtomicHabits was coming out. He was doing the podcast circuit. Timing was good.

I wrote him a good email. Specifically referenced his blog posts I have been reading for years. Oh by the way, the name of my show is #OnePercentBetter an idea he popularized. Alignment.

4
Did I have a connection? Kinda. About that time, my friendship w/ @CoachDeegan was growing. He runs the program at James’ alma mater, but in no way did I lead with that. I mentioned baseball & my respect for Mike. Didn’t hurt. I did open my James convo with a
question.

5
One other factor that can’t be ignored. By the time I invited James I already had generous yeses from @debbiemillman @VossNegotiation Seth Godin @toddhenry @DanielPink @TBrianKight @phil_hellmuth @dorieclark Social Proof helps. Domino effect.

Two years from the day episode aired people are finding it now & wondering how I got him on The long tail as @TEDchris would say. 163 episodes in & I’m still improving. If you know someone into getting 1% better pass it on. Who knows what the next two years will bring?!
