Russ didn't have a great first half but he wasn't bad either. Gonna run through several plays.

Here's the first one of note, Russ misses an easy check down on 3rd and 4, second drive. No idea what he's waiting on instead of dumping off.
Sack on 1st and 10. Pressure comes fast and there's no one open. Nothing he can really do here.
This hurts. A few plays later, 3rd & 18. Nothing open and Russ decides to run. Because he scrambles, it holds the LB and Hyde ends up streaking down the sideline all alone.

Would've been a miracle play, no blame on Russ, but sometimes he pulls this stuff out of his hat.
2nd and 6. You can probably knock Russ twice here. A more accurate pass to DK is probably completed, or he could've dumped down to Lockett for a few.

He converts third down on out to DK the next play.
(this drive ended up dying on the botched snap on 3rd and 1)
1st and 10. Some will argue that Russ should hit Moore on the corner on the right side. That's not a throw without risks, but it's there. Scrambles and picks up 7 instead, which is #fine.
Same idea as the last play. 1st and 10. Should Russ have hung in the pocket a beat longer to try to push it futher downfield and hit Moore on the crosser? Maybe.

Hits Hollister for 6 instead. Which is #fine.
Ok last one. 3rd and 16 with 1:06 left in the half.

Should he have said fuck it and thrown to Hollister? Yeah, a pick or incompletion in this situation is unlikely to matter much. But he's not open.
So to sum it up I think there's one badly missed check down, one badly thrown ball to DK, one opportunity where you want an MVP to push the ball downfield more aggressively, and one should've been hail mary.

Not a great half, but not a terrible half.
I'd say mostly the same for the gameplan. Schotty didn't outcoach the Giants, but it wasn't like everything was DOA either.

I think you can chalk the first half up to a combo of some bad down and distances, a Lockett drop, a botched snap... The entire offense was meh.
