Conservative Christians share some blame in the gullibility of Americans to believe lies. They have shared "urban legends" for decades. They've promoted sensationalist fiction from Maria Monk to Alberto Rivera to Chick Tracts. They've replaced Biblical truth with science fiction,
thinking, for example, that bar codes and microchips are the "mark of the Beast." They've supported society's norms that contradicted the teaching of Scripture, including militarism and racism. Stir up the people, get them worried, get them to trust you. Sow wind, reap whirlwind.
The one commandment of the ten that does not seem to matter to many is "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." Time to confess. Time to repent. Time to speak truth.
