Three articles in the bag. It's freezing cold in this room and I'm listening to the Krampus soundtrack.
You ready. I'm ready. Packers Week 13 passing thread let's gooooooooooooooooooo
Kicking things off with PA Boot. But not just any PA Boot: It's PA Boot with Lewis as the intermediate option. With the deep defenders drawn by Adams & the shallow held by Tonyan, Lewis is wide open! RUMBLIN' STUMBLIN', and so on.
The route from Adams is basically the same idea that led to the Tonyan TD last week. Defense falls under it better here, but 36 yards to BIG DOG is nothing to sneeze at.
Another PA Boot. Pull them up with the fake, roll out and find the open man.
PA Boot! Fake, roll, find man. Repeat.
This specific play was 3rd & 4. With Tonyan having the outside angle, there was no reason to try to do anything big. Just get the ball into his hands, move the chains and keep rolling.
Let's hit some Slant/Flat. This is the second play on the day for the Packers and it was...not great. After the fumble put them behind the sticks, Patrick got beat before the slant/flat could even play out.
Great timing on this, and you can really see why slant/flat can be effective. Eagles in man coverage. LB to the right follows the flat, so Rodgers just waits for him to clear the lane then fires to Adams on the slant.
Sit route from Lewis helps hold the middle.
Fun pick/wheel variation on the right, but Rodgers doesn't go there. No worries. First read is the slant/flat on the left. It's 3rd & 3 and Jones is open in the flat, so Rodgers hits Jones, moves the chains and keeps rolling.
Who loves Smash Fade! The Packers love Smash Fade! (Also me.)
We don't see this a ton, but I love this because it illustrates the idea behind the concept. The boundary defender backs up to play the fade, giving room on the curl. Rodgers just throws the curl for an easy 5 yards.
A little mirrored Smash Fade action. The boundary defender bites on the curl, leaving Adams man-to-man on the fade.
Really nice throw, but Adams can't quite haul it in.
Motion signaling man, which leaves Lazard alone on the outside. Rodgers gets to the top of his drop, Maddox is turning to run, throw the out.
Lazard in motion, defender backpedaling when Rodgers hits the top of his drop, throw the out.
Rodgers reads the underneath defender to make sure he's not dropping under the out.
Really nice catch from Lazard.
Top of the drop, defender turning, throw the out.
Adams with the out from the slot. Cooks him. Cooks him whole.
Lovely move off the line.
Sprint-out from the 4 with Jones as the personal protector. Adams gets outside position and Rodgers hits him, but the defender on his hip is able to bring him down before he can cross the line.
Really selling the run up front. Just a lot of very large bodies smashing into each other.
Slant/flat(ish) on the left. Adams gets outside position, Rodgers lofts it and Adams just goes up for it.
Tonyan just kind of maneuvers his way through the middle. You can see Tonyan jumping over the top of the shifting defender in the middle. With a short route on the right & everything else moving left, Tonyan just keeps chugging into open space.
Adams with the post corner to draw the attention of the defenders to that side, while MVS runs a post over the top. Step to the outside gets his defenders hips turned, giving him a nice open spot of field to run to. Unfortunately, he can't haul it in.
Rodgers CHUCKS this thing, man. MVS has to slow down a bit and use his body to protect it from the defender.
Lazard motions in & the single-high safety shifts over, giving the Packers a two-on-two match-up. Rise up and throw to EQ on the RPO and see if he can make something happen.
Eagles fall into a three-high shell at the snap, allowing MVS to turn the defender on his side and run over the top.
Over the last few years, I talked a lot about depth of routes in terms of being complimentary to each other. LaFleur has really improved that this year.
94 is breaking loose, so Rodgers steps up and through and tries to hit MVS deep. Just can't get enough on it as 75 gets a hand on him as he's throwing.
EQ running a deep crosser over a deep hook route from Adams. With the underneath defender playing deep & the underneath defender up on Adams, I think Rodgers is looking for a slightly shallower route from EQ here.
As it is, EQ has a shot at a tough catch, but he can't haul it in.
