I can not emphasize this enough. Upwards of 40 million people in this country are facing eviction when the CDC moratorium expires at the end of this month. That’s roughly 12% of the entire population. Over 1 out every 10 people. The rippling economic effects will be staggering 1/
The lack of urgency displayed by govt on this issue, both outgoing & incoming, the fact there’s any debate over whether to give ppl direct relief & that the #’s being floated are as low as $600-1200 are all indications we’ll face another layer of mass disaster going into 2021 2/2
And those 40M would only represent a first wave of evictions. That would not be the end of it. It would be followed/accompanied by a wave of foreclosures & loan defaults worse than what we saw in the 2009 recession. I’m absolutely blown away by the lack of urgency on this.
The vaccine is not a solution to the eviction & economic crisis. Even if everyone were made immune to COVID this very instant, that doesn’t address this issue. The vaccine is important but political leaders seem to be focusing on that to the exclusion of everything else.
