For the record, the “Van Halen stole their 1978 wings logo from an old Jimi Hendrix logo” is complete fiction. That story has it exactly backwards.
In 1980 there was a German box set vinyl release of Hendrix’s catalog. And it was a poster that had the “Jimi Hendrix Van Halen” logo in question.
What happened is that the artist who did the poster for the 1980 Polydor Hendrix set was inspired by or just plain old copied the VH logo as a homage.
Do you think otherwise we have to assume that Dave Bhang, Who was a in-house art director for Warner Bros. decided one day, hey what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna plagiarize an old Jimi Hendrix logo and put it on a Van Halen album. Really? It beggars belief.
And again for the doubters look at the Discogs listing. I even heard from a collector a few years back who sent me a pic of his own copy of that 1980 Hendrix box set, with the poster in question.
One more.
