This whole "cyberpunk can cause seizures" stuff has really shown how ignorant society is in general of epilepsy and what it is.
I'm epileptic. Have been my entire life. This thread has some info for you if you want it.
I'll also answer anything if you're interested.

For starters, epilepsy isn't just flashing lights. In fact only 5% of epileptics are severely photosensitive. I'm what's called partially photosensitive. It's where strobe and bright sudden lights etc won't cause me to have a complex seizure but a partial one instead
There are many triggers to epilepsy. My personal main ones are hunger, tiredness and stress. But I also have some lower less effective weird ones too. Like lavender. Everyone with epilepsy has their own personal triggers.
Seizures aren't just "black out fall over and start twitching". There are thousands of kinds. It can be a twitch, a jerk, a paralysis of a limb, things feeling bigger or smaller than usual, a blank out for 30 seconds. The list is endless. Everyone has their own kinds.
Seizures are based into a few categories. These go: generalized, absence, myoclonic, clonic, tonic, atonic, partial, simple partial, complex partial, focal.
All can display in a number of ways or feelings. I can't describe them all at length but they are the main groups

Recovering from a seizure sucks ass. It can range from a few hours to a few days. It really knocks you sideways. A common thing to occur after a seizure is amnesia which is really crap to deal with. Also a bitten tongue. That one hurts.
A seizure is basically electrical impulses in your brain going haywire and therefore you lose control of part, or all, of your body and possibly your consciousness. Meds can help but sometimes it has to be accepted it will never be fully controlled (like mine)
I hope this has helped someone out there. In my opinion epilepsy is shown very wrongly in the media and therefore society doesn't understand it. Like you throw a strobe at us and we just drop. That afterwards we are fine and aware. This couldn't be further from the truth.
Like I said, I'll answer any questions. I just think epilepsy and how it effects day to day life should be talked about more and with it on everyone's lips right now because of cyberpunk I took the opportunity.
(Not having a go at cyberpunk btw!)
