We all have a right to move safely around the @CityofStJohns. But a majority of council feels entitled to plead poverty, insisting they can't find the money to clear our sidewalks. Funny that we can always find the money for road-clearing. #MobilityJustice #ChallengeCarCulture
Why does @CityofStJohns plead poverty on sidewalk clearing + transit but not road clearing? It is discrimination against people with disabilities + low-income people. Ppl who don't, or can't drive, still have a right to move around safely by sidewalk or bus. #ChallengeCarCulture

Heartfelt thanks to @ianfroude + @mmburton for well thought out dissents, & for voting against a budget that will perpetuate discrimination in the @CityofStJohns. To the rest of council, you are responsible for the isolation, injuries, & lives lost this winter. You had a choice.
You did not choose to listen. You did not choose to protect our most vulnerable. You chose to make the problem worse, by introducing permanent cuts to transit.
You have blood on your hands @CityofStJohns
This is not an inevitability. It's a choice, and the wrong one.

We will continue to organize around mobility justice until it is a reality in the @CityofStJohns. We urge council to change course. Our asks are painfully simple:
1. Clear our sidewalks
2. Fund transit
3. Use Universal Design for all further development
