The progress marked by the new #COVID19 vaccine is incredible. But, a vaccine is only effective in fighting a pandemic if you get it to healthcare workers and the most vulnerable and at-risk around the world. Why? Keep following along (2/9)
This isn’t just about fairness, it’s about following the science that shows us how we shorten the lifespan of this pandemic. Controlling the spread of the virus is crucial & the faster we target at-risk populations globally, the sooner we end #COVID19 in the US & abroad. (3/9)
A fragmented, country-first approach does not work when fighting a virus that doesn’t discriminate & doesn’t know borders. The result?

▪️ More lives lost
▪️ More damage to the global economy
▪️ Massive increases in poverty & food insecurity (4/9)
Not only will the global economic crisis continue, the US economy will continue to take a big hit. This strategy could result in tens of billions in lost GDP in the US alone. (6/9) https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RBA769-1.html
Yes, Americans should have access to effective COVID-19 vaccines. But the long and short of it is - if we don’t get this vaccine to those key groups everywhere, the pandemic is not going anywhere. (8/9)
What can we do?

▪️ Listen to the experts
▪️ Show US leadership by supporting global efforts to distribute vaccines
▪️ Fund key partners like @GlobalFund, @gavi & @CEPIvaccines
