Hey @TheCdnAcademy, @WarnerMedia & @Telefilm_Canada I have rewritten your "Unique Perspective" question from your Writer's Program application where I imagine how you would ask it to a white filmmaker. Hear me out & know that I'm grateful that programs like this exist for
BIPOC creatives. I just want you to hear how it sounds to apply for funding or pitch a show in Canada as someone who is BIPOC. Other grant, mentorship and funding programs please take note:  @BellFund @OntarioCreates   @cbcgem   @CMF_FMC
The question you asked us:

"In 500 words or less provide us with a statement about how your authentic perspective has shaped your craft and your career trajectory. We welcome you to share the ways in which coming from an under-represented group has both enriched your experience
and contributed to your unique creative approach and / or the ways it may have been a barrier for you to gain access and opportunities to advance in your career."

Me asking the same question to a white person:

"In 500 words or less tell us about your super cool time-travelling sci-fi movie where Sandra Bullock is blind or the guy from Gossip Girl is a stalker and where the flashbacks are shot on super-16mm black & white film
and don't worry about if it is authentic 'cause you don't have to worry about that since you can tell stories that hinge on your creativity alone with zero connection to your painful and oppressive roots as a Canadian since we consider you to be just the "classic-Canadian"
and we don't need your movies to showcase a "unique" "minority" "perspective" which we decide just how "authentic" that perspective is by choosing who we support based on how BIPOCy their BIPOC stories are
and also your cutting-edge and gritty movies don't have to explore Canadian authenticity just do you and we'll let the BIPOCs do the nuanced stuff (as WE deem "nuanced") since they for sure don't have sci-fi or rom-coms in them just BIPOCy stuff
anyway you keep writing about whatever and we'll get "a BIPOC" to play the principal in your coming-of-age movie
and don't forget to tell us about your movie where your cinematography reference is Blade Runner and Saoirse Ronan could be the lead because women need to see themselves in the movies too
okay great and once you have directed 3 of these micro budget films which you have time to do because you somehow (deeply. rooted. institutionalized. racism.) don't need a day job to survive, you can move to LA and direct episodic there and generate wealth for NOT Canada
but come back anytime we'll throw you some episodes of cop and hospital shows that we'll still be making here.
