In S7E5, “Lisa the Vegetarian”, we learn that Apu is not just a vegan, but a militant and judgemental one. What limited polling there is of vegans suggests that ¾ of this demographic are Biden voters. If anything, that feels like a conservative estimate.

It is also indicative of a voter who cares deeply about environmental issues. Apu, being committed to veganism and animal rights, would not vote for the President that has rolled back animal rights’ protections and doesn’t give a hoot about the environment. Next.

Apu is an Indian-American, a strong Democratic demographic. Over 75% of Indian-Americans voted for Clinton, and polling showed that these margins were holding in 2020. “But what about Modi?”. True, Apu is Hindu, this might lead you to believe that he would support Narendra Modi

While this may be true, studies find that “Indian Americans do not consider U.S.-India relations to be one of the principal determinants of their vote. The economy and healthcare are the two most important issues”. Modi Democrats are much more common than you might think.

“But Apu is a small business owner!”. No. He is the clerk of a convenience store, merely one of the many locations of the Kwik-E-Mart corporation. The average wage of a clerk is 10.22/hour, so Apu stands to benefit from a $15 min wage that Biden supports.

In S7E23, “Much Apu about Nothing”, we learn that Apu is an illegal and fears being deported. He advocates for essentially turning Springfield into a sanctuary city by opposing Prop. 24. He would not vote for Trump after all of his statements and actions against immigrants.

Apu has a PhD from the Springfield Heights Institute of Technology (SHIT). Non-white college graduates voted 70% for Clinton (Post-grads like Apu are even more Democratic), and unlike non-college minorities, it is not clear that Trump made gains with this demographic in 2020.

Apu likely earns minimum wage or close to it, and is a first generation immigrant, an Indian-American with a doctorate, and a militant vegan. Individually, these are all strong Democratic groups. When you combine them in one voter, there’s no doubt that Apu voted Clinton-Biden.
